11/30/2009 - PRE-RACE UPDATE
Hello Castlewood 8-Hour Adventure Racers! We hope you are getting ready for a great race this weekend! We feel like we have a very fun
course set up, and we hope you all enjoy the race.
We wanted to pass on some very important information to you about the race. There will be a bike drop for all racers before the start of the
race. The bike drop location will be open from 12PM until 11PM on Friday, December 4th, and then again from 4AM - 5:15AM on Saturday,
December 5th. It's not necessary, but it's highly recommended, that you try to drop your team's bikes off on Friday to give you more time
on Saturday morning. There will be race volunteers watching your bikes and bike gear from 12PM on Friday until all racers have gone through
this location on Saturday.
Teams are NOT allowed to leave ANY food or drinks at this location...period. All food and drinks that you would like to have for the race
must be carried with you from the start of the race. The only items that are allowed to be staged with your bikes are the Individual and Team
Required Gear for the biking leg (helmet, flashing red rear light, spare tube, multi-purpose tool, patch kit and tire pump / CO2 cartridge
inflator), your biking shoes (if applicable) and water bottles that are securely attached to your bike. Once you reach the bike drop
location during the race, your team must take ALL items with you from there.
The location of the bike drop is at the Wyman Center in Eureka. The address for the Wyman Center is:
600 Kiwanis Drive
Eureka, MO 63025
636-938-5245
http://wymancenter.org/
Here is a map that will give you the exact location of the bike drop. On the map, please right-click the Placemark and click 'Directions
to Here' in order to get step-by-step directions to the Bike Drop location.

There will be no gear check at racer check-in on Friday at Alpine Shop. It is imperative that you have all of the required gear with you
during the race at all times, because we will be performing gear checks on the course.
Teams will be paddling a short ways with their bikes this year. Please bring a tie down system with you to the race (and carry it with
you during the race) so you can secure your bikes to the canoes while paddling.
All teams need to have a UTM tool with the scales 1:15000 and 1:30000. You will be plotting on both scales during the race. It's possible
that Alpine Shop has some of these UTM tools. We highly recommend the UTM tool
from Map Tools, and those are the tools that Alpine Shop
sells also. We will also have some of these tools for sale at racer check-in for $5.
It's important that all teams carry a pen or two (for plotting UTM coordinates) during the race. Your UTM tool is required gear, but
you will need a pen in order to plot during the race. Please make sure you have a couple of pens during the race.
You will be required to give us your car make, model and license plate number of the vehicle that you will be driving to the race. So if
you are carpooling, please figure this out beforehand and have this information ready for us at racer check-in. Thanks.
Finally, there will be an awards ceremony at 5:15PM at Race H.Q. after the race. Bonk Hard Racing will be supplying pizza and
refreshments, and we will be awarding the top teams their prizes. Please try to stick around for the awards ceremony if possible.
We are looking forward to seeing you all this weekend, and please drive carefully.
